Jacoppo, September 2020, Student of the Month , MIM ESADE

Jacoppo is an Italian individual among our youngest students at the MBA Center. He was just 20 years old when he started applying for his master's to increase his exposure, network, and experience before working. With all the hard work, he got the acceptance by ESADE Business School for their master's in science in international management program. Though he had an offer to start working even then, he chose to continue studying, being only 20 and having all these years to work. He also has proficiency in multiple languages such as Italian, German, English, Chinese, and French, and he is currently learning Spanish. Continue reading below to know more about his journey and his association with the MBA Center that successfully helped him get into his dream school!

Could you please tell us more about yourself?

My name is Jacoppo Sambuchi. I studied at Bocconi University with a BM program and am a current student for a master's in science in international management at ESADE. I am Italian and 21 years old.

What made you apply for a MIM at this point in your career?

I was just 20 years old when I thought to apply, thinking it was unnecessary to start working at this early age with a relatively scarce academic background. Though Bocconi was a great university, I still lacked some qualitative and quantitative skills. I saw my lacking skills during my internship and wanted to further my education by using my master's in management.

Why did you choose ESADE? Any specific reason?

ESADE is probably the best opportunity for me because it ties together three things. ESADE is worth your money, and you receive an outstanding work-life balance. The campus is surrounded by happy people with which you could create a network. They are looking for students like me who work and study hard, but at the same time, they offer you job opportunities and support in doing internships and searching for jobs throughout your study. This support is something that I really need. During my bachelor's, I had only one option to choose between study and work, so I decided to study as it was more important.

So, you are fluent in Italian, German, English, and you know Latin, Chinese and French at an intermediate level, and now learning Spanish. How is the experience?

I cannot remember not knowing the first three languages because I had studied them since I was 5. Then I started Chinese, which was tough, but I had to learn it because of financial issues as a backup for any job opportunity. I studied Latin when I was in high school, it was challenging, but it opened you up for other experiences, etc. French, I learned for work purposes in Paris, which got cancelled due to the Corona pandemic. I am now learning Spanish using Lingo, which I generally do.

What was the most challenging part for you in the entire application process?

The application for the interview and the process to apply to the school were much more straightforward than others. Interviewing and applying for some investment banks is more demanding because they ask for more details and want everything to be explained.

The most challenging part for me in the whole application process was the GMAT. When you're in the last year of your bachelor's, you need to balance everything, including the application process, the GMAT, and study. So, I can 100 % say that if there's anything you need help with, it would be the GMAT.

Any advice for future applicants?

Work hard on everything throughout your application process because you need to care about the schools you are applying to. That and focus on the GMAT, as it's crucial and takes time.

How was your experience with the MBA Center?

It was positive. GMAT requires a lot of your time and hard work. It would have been more difficult without the help of Dr Hubert. He is a busy person, but he still took some time to guide me through all my essays, applications, the GMAT, and everything I needed.

Thanks for taking the time Jacoppo. It was really nice talking to you!
