Riccardo, July 2020, Student of the Month, MBAn, MIT Sloan School of Management

Meet Riccardo, an Italian citizen. He's just 22 years old. After completing his bachelor's from Bocconi University and the internship, Riccardo was so interested in business analytics that he decided to apply for the master's in business analytics program at MIT. He successfully got accepted to MIT Sloan School of Management. He wanted to go to a top B-school to make the best out of his course, and that's why he thought to apply to MIT Sloan Business School and was lucky to get in. Let us look at his journey so far and learn what challenges he has gone through and how he tackled them!

Could you please tell us something about yourself?

My name is Riccardo, and I'm Italian. I started at Bocconi University, completing my bachelor's in international economics and management. I started being attracted to business analytics during my bachelor's and through my internship experience during the summer. Eventually, I decided to apply to MIT, and fortunately, I got accepted.

Any specific reason you chose a master's of business analytics and MIT to study this subject?

For my master's, there are several reasons in general. I'm very interested in this subject and fascinated by its potential application as a general-purpose technology. The career that I want to pursue is mostly in management and having expertise in business analytics is crucial. I wanted to acquire this expertise in a structured way by getting this degree.

Of course, I decided to pick MIT because it was the best program from many points of view. It has a fantastic reputation as an engineering and business school. Also, it has excellent facets with many applied components, so we get to put analytics into practise every day in real-life situations with several courses.

What was the most challenging part of the entire application process?

One should look at the profile to identify the strength and weaknesses correctly. I recognized my main strength as gaining a spot in the class to get a good GMAT score as my profile was not that quantitative. I wanted to show that I'm capable of handling the technical coursework with an excellent standardized test that does say something about your quantitive ability in some sense. I decided to prepare extensively for the GMAT—the most demanding and essential part.

Since you worked with Dr Hubert for your preparation, how was your collaboration with him?

He was supportive throughout the process, and it was a positive experience for me. I tried to get as much information as possible, the sources, etc. It was great working with him, and I would highly recommend taking help from professionals like Dr Hubert as it's a significant investment for your career ahead

Thank you for your time Riccardo, it was nice to have this session with you!
