Would you please introduce yourself?
My name is Boris. I am currently at INSEAD for the MBA program. I used to be an Investment Banker and am here to tell you about my journey.
Why did you opt for an MBA? Did you consider other courses for your masters?
I did not think about all the courses on offer as I focused on my goal to complete an MBA. I met Dr Hubert from The MBA Center because of this, and he guided me along this journey. I enjoyed my job and was good at it, but I wanted a change, and an MBA was the perfect choice for me.
Did you also consider other schools, or it was just INSEAD?
INSEAD was not my only choice as I considered many aspects for my ideal school. For example, the location I was targeting to go to North America was deciding between the US and Canada. For the US, I applied to Columbia University and NYU, but I was open to others as I wanted the best school for my next big step of going into consulting, so I applied to INSEAD, LBS, and HEC as well.
Were there other criteria while choosing schools that helped you decide on the school and the program?
I wanted to go into consulting and study in North America, so I needed to select a school that was my perfect fit. Each school has something to bring to the table like better networks, curriculums, facilities and so forth. I chose INSEAD as it met my three main criteria. The school's network and high acceptance in top consulting firms, the curriculum, and the possibility to work globally.
Is there a moment you would like to share with us from your journey?
There were many moments, but I would like to share one of my important ones. I was on vacation in the US when I visited the Columbia University campus. I was trying to decide on whether an MBA was right for me or not. An open class was happening, so I decided to chat with the students and teachers and even joined the class, which was in corporate finance. It was truly something, and I immediately felt like I belonged.
Is there something specific that you would want to tell the candidates who want to target an MBA program?
My advice for all of them is to take a year and not rush into it. When I say the application is a journey, it's true. Dedicate some time and practice to have good scores and, in the meantime, work on your essays. You have to go deep to see what you did that many others didn't do. You have to find what is your value. Write your essays and rewrite them being honest and open. It's essential to have some feedback on that matter. Take some time because you fail when you rush.
