Inmarculada, MBA program at IESE Business School, Jan 2021, Student of the Month

Meet Inmaculada, from South Spain. She speaks English, French, and Spanish and has skills in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, social networking, accounting, SAP, external auditing, data analytics, etc. Her educational background is a master’s in auditing from Universidad de Alcalá and a master’s in law and business from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. She worked at KPMG as an assistant auditor and then moved to Madrid with KPMG. After some time, she decided to be an internal auditor and moved to an international Swiss company. Her background was primarily in law, so she had to think a lot about if she should continue her studies in law or go into the business field. She decided to broaden her area and started preparing under the guidance of Dr Hubert and the MBA Center team. She made it to her best-fit program, IESE Business School, for an MBA program, and we are glad that we could help her out in that. We at The MBA Center recently interviewed Inmaculada to discuss her journey to the MBA program at IESE Business School. We talked about everything from the application process, the GMAT, preparation, and selection. So let's find out more about her and her journey!

Would you like to introduce yourself and tell us more about you?

My name is Inma, and I'm from the south of Spain. My educational background is a master’s in auditing from Universidad de Alcalá and a master’s in law and business from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. I joined KPMG as an assistant auditor and then moved to Madrid with KPMG. One and a half years ago, I decided to be an internal auditor, and I moved to an international Swiss company called Heritage B. It was then I decided to pursue an MBA and started preparing.

As you were very specific about wanting to do an MBA at this school, what was the reason?

During the joint degree, I needed to decide if I wanted to focus on law or business. Since I was more attracted to the business world, I chose an MBA. An MBA could be an excellent opportunity to improve my skills and become a future leader. My family is important to me, so I wanted to stay in Spain, and IESE is ranked fourth in the world among MBA's. I appreciate the values of IESE and the way they are working.

Did you also consider other courses like EMBA, MIM, and MIF?

I want to be more focused and committed to a full-time MBA, and I really wanted this opportunity. If you are working and simultaneously doing an MBA, you need to dedicate a lot of time, and I did not want that and not enjoy what I was doing. I chose a full-time MBA, wishing to take full advantage of this opportunity and commit fully to my time and money.

What are your expectations from an MBA course that you will soon join?

When I talked to people and the alumni, everybody said it was a life-changing experience. I feel that it would be great to meet so many people from different backgrounds as this gives you a lot, not only professionally but also personally.

Does your school also provide exchange programs?

Yes. During the second year, you can do an exchange program and internships.

Is there any advice that you would like to give others?

If you are starting to apply and thinking of schools for your masters, talk with people and alumni, get feedback about your profile. Once you decide to go for any specific program, planning is crucial for the GMAT, application process, and so forth.
