Can you tell us more about yourself?
My name is Alexis. I am a graduate of the European Business School with a Master’s degree in Finance. During this period, I interned as a Merger and Acquisition Intern at the PAX Corporate Finance offices in Paris. I am very interested in the field of finance and decided on continuing my education in the field and decided to go for another degree that would help me gain a foothold in the industry.
What prompted you to apply for an MSc?
Having graduated from European Business School Paris I received a general business education there. EBS is considered a second-tier program in Europe and a degree from EBS was not considered in line with my professional and career goals. I was in contact with a friend of mine who had used Dr. Hubert Silly and MBA Center services and had got accepted at his dream school, the University of British Columbia and he recommended their services very highly. After interacting with Dr. Hubert Silly, we shortlisted six programs with LBS being the highest ranked. At that time I wasn’t sure whether Dr. Hubert Silly was as great an expert as my friend claimed as it is very difficult for someone with average grades from EBS could get into LBS and I did not take him seriously. It is only after some preliminary investigation I conducted in Paris, talking to the wealthiest and powerful people in France who have used his services, that I found out that he is probably the greatest professional in the sector and he knows what he is doing. When I finally got into LBS, I could not thank him enough. I wanted to make my career as a merger and acquisition specialist and London is the best place to network and find a job.
What did you find the most difficult in the application process?
Strangely enough, I got 700 in my GMAT quite easily after just two months of private tutoring. The ease with which I got the score probably surprised Dr. Hubert Silly as well. My ambition was reinforced through this success and we began my applications with great gusto.
The application process was quite difficult as I am far from fluent in English, nor am I a creative writer. I did not know what to say or where to start. But again, Dr. Hubert Silly was a great support, and he took the time to listen to what I wanted and what to look for in my life to answer the various questions that were asked, etc.
What is life like at LBS?
Life at LBS has been way beyond what I imagined them to be. The quality of the classes themselves are a far cry from what I am used to. In fact, I am very eager to make use of all the facilities provided to the students here. Also, being in London has been really helpful for me as I have managed to build a proper network with my peers.
What would be your advice to someone applying for an MSc program?
Aim high. If you have someone on your side who is knowledgeable and believes that you can make it, trust the person and trust yourself.
Do not hesitate to look inside yourself and work on your story. Look for what motivates and interests you. This will prove to be the key to a lot of questions that will arise when you start preparing for the MBA.
Finally, I received great support from Dr. Hubert Silly and MBA Center without which I believe I would not have been able to achieve the success that I did. I know that I have assets, I have worked hard, but it was only thanks to Dr. Hubert Silly that I was able to manage and direct them in the right channel.
