The Application

What the LBS MBA application asks for

• Essay 1 (500 words): What are your post-MBA goals and how will your prior experience and the London Business School programme contribute towards these?
• Essay 2 (200 words): What makes you unique?
• Optional essay (500 words): anything else the Admissions Committee should know
• One-page CV, university transcripts and one professional reference
• GMAT or GRE score (under five years old) and proof of English unless you qualify for a waiver
• Application fee: £200

The first essay is the heart of the application: a credible goal, a clear link to what you have done so far, and specific reasons why LBS and London help you get there.

Interview

The London Business School interview

Selected candidates are interviewed by LBS alumni or senior admissions staff, usually in the region where you live; you may be asked to travel. Interview feedback is combined with your written application to reach an offer, waitlist or rejection. MiM interviews are currently held online. We run mock interviews in the LBS format, with feedback on your goals, your ‘why LBS’ answer and the leadership examples behind your essays. See interview preparation →

Comparing Schools

LBS, INSEAD or HEC Paris?

Many of our candidates apply to LBS alongside INSEAD and HEC Paris, and several have been admitted to two or three of them. The LBS MBA is longer and more flexible (15–21 months, with a summer internship), which suits career switchers; INSEAD’s 10-month MBA suits candidates who want a fast return to work; HEC Paris sits in between at 16 months.
