Can you tell us more about yourself?
My name is Daniel and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Freie Universitat Berlin where I specialized in Banking and Finance, Strategic Management, Corporate Accounting and Auditing, and Inferential Statistics. I speak four languages, namely, English, French, German and Spanish. I began my career as a part-time Market Specialist and Trader right when I was still a student at Gymnasium am Kreisberg where I majored in Mathematics and English.
What prompted you to apply for a MIF?
During my studies, I was also working part-time called Tradegate AG where I developed a real passion and interest for finance. Since my education was very broad and not well recognized and I wanted to move higher in my professional career, probably getting into investment banking, I knew that I would need the necessary degree to reach my dreams of working in investment banking. Talking to Dr. Hubert Silly, I found out that most of the MIF programs take almost 18-24 months. This was not what I wanted and so decided to apply for the MIF at IE because IE offers a 12 months program that is well regarded by the industry as well as short enough for what I had in mind.
What did you find the most difficult in the application process?
The application process was quite smooth as I managed to get a 670 after just a few months of classes with Dr. Hubert Silly at the MBA Center, Frankfurt. I received all the necessary help to apply to IE. The major difficulty I faced was traveling from Berlin to Frankfurt regularly for the classes. The rest of the process was quite smooth as I was collaborating with Dr. Hubert Silly who advised me to apply to IE as I was looking for a short program, the GMAT classes were well taught and well-structured allowing optimal preparation and I received the necessary support from the coach that allowed me to make the successful application to IE.
What is life like at IE?
Attending my MBA classes at IE Business School was a great experience overall. The faculty and the teaching methodology are very advanced and you are introduced to various perspectives on different issues across the globe. The diversity of the student body makes the entire process much more organic and there is a lot of value-added to the discussions. Apart from that the student body is very active and is very helpful to new students as well as anyone who needs help.
What would be your advice to someone applying for a MIF program?
Look for the programs that you want to do. Initially, I thought that the MIF was a two-year program and something that was not for me. After talking to Dr. Hubert Silly I found that one-year programs were possible too. So make a thorough research. Business schools have become really creative and there are programs there that are meant for you.
Be careful with the letter of recommendation. A lot of people do not involve their bosses in the letter of recommendation. Moreover, students studying in big universities might face the issue of not being as well known by professors. This might prove to be an issue when you need a letter of recommendation. Plan long in advance and find someone to write your letter early on.
