Essay 1: How will the Booth MBA help you achieve your immediate and long-term post-MBA career goals? (250-word minimum)
Chicago Booth’s first essay question is very straightforward and direct. It touches on both your short and long term career goals. To answer this question in a detailed and good manner, applicants must talk about and identify the position or future career they want to have immediate after graduating with an MBA from Chicago Booth Business School. The applicant must be very specific and mention the job title and an organization he could work for in the future.
This is one of those tricky questions that get asked in interviews a lot on how you see yourself in ten years! It makes sense then to elaborate on how attending Chicago Booth and how their MBA Program would make it easier for you to grow and to progress towards fulfilling both your short and long term goals. Bring examples and perhaps even someone you know that went through the same process! Show the committee that you made your research on the program and that you know exactly how it will help you become successful in the future!
Given how open ended the question with now word limits, the applicant could be tempted into listing every single accomplishment or experience they have gone through throughout their lives. The applicant must be very careful not to include anything unnecessary or anything that does not answer the question directly! The admissions committee are reading thousands of these essays and they want specifics! They want to know you more and to know how different you are from the person behind the next paper they will read!
Essay 2: An MBA is as much about personal growth as it is about professional development. In addition to sharing your experience and goals in terms of career, we’d like to learn more about you outside of the office. Use this opportunity to tell us something about who you are… (250-word minimum)
The applicant here must think about the past experiences they have had outside the offices they both work and worked for and give a broad theme of what really defines the person they are! This is a question to know the character, spirit and values of the applicant! Let them know who you really are and why you fit in within the community of Chicago Booth!
Write down some of the most important events that happened in your life and include both the good and the bad! after all, it is all about authenticity! Try to come up with a theme that unifies all these events and accomplishments and explain how it matches and connects the dots along with your future goals!
Once the applicant has established their values and their character to the admissions committee, they must tell them how they will contribute to the community at the school and what they can bring to the table to make the whole experience useful for him or her and the other members of the community!
Additional Information: Is there any unclear information in your application that needs further explanation? If so, please use this section to clarify. (300 words)
This question needs to tackle anything that wasn’t mentioned in the previous two questions! Any gaps, or anything that needs further explanation. A low GMAT score, lack of recommenders, or anything questionable in your life that you think deserves explanation! The admission committee reward authenticity and truth and they will look at your application from a holistic point of view! We are not perfect, we are humans after all, so we all make mistakes but the most important thing that the committee values is how you get up, pull yourself up and away from difficult situations and then thrive!
