Study Plan

How long does GRE preparation take?

Most candidates preparing alongside a job need two to three months. Yale SOM, for example, suggests allowing two to three months of study and taking the test early enough to retake it before the deadline. A typical plan with MBA Center:

Diagnostic test

Set your Verbal and Quant baseline and a target for each school.

Weeks 1–4

Core Quant (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data analysis) and Verbal (reading, text completion, sentence equivalence).

Weeks 5–8

Timed practice by question type, vocabulary in context and error logs reviewed by your teacher.

Weeks 9–12

Full-length mock tests in the shorter format, plus one practice Issue essay a week.

Test day and retake plan

Book early; the 21-day rule means planning a retake into your application calendar.
