Stern reviews applications on a rolling basis and does not wait for a deadline to pass, so submit as soon as your application is strong. International candidates are encouraged to apply early for visa reasons. The Tech and Luxury & Retail MBAs have earlier deadlines (5 September, 5 November and 5 January; a 5 February deadline is open to US citizens and permanent residents only). Interview

The Stern interview

Your initial notification is an interview invitation, a waitlist offer or a denial. Interviews are by invitation, scheduled through your status page and currently all virtual. They are run by trained admissions professionals who have read your entire application, so expect detailed questions on your goals and your Pick Six. A post-interview decision usually follows within three weeks.

NYU Stern admissions: frequently asked questions

What is the NYU Stern Pick Six essay?

It is Stern’s personal-expression essay: a brief introduction of up to three sentences, six images that show your interests, values or personality, and a one-sentence caption for each, uploaded as a single PDF.

What are the NYU Stern deadlines for 2026–27?

For the full-time MBA starting in autumn 2027, the deadlines are 15 September 2026, 15 October 2026, 15 January 2027 and 15 April 2027. Stern reviews applications on a rolling basis, so you can apply between deadlines.

Does NYU Stern offer a test waiver?

Yes. Candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree and can show academic readiness, for example through a quantitative degree, professional experience or certifications, may request a standardized test waiver for the full-time and Luxury & Retail MBAs.

What GMAT score do I need for NYU Stern?

There is no minimum. The Class of 2027 averaged 682 on the GMAT Focus Edition and 737 on the 10th edition GMAT. Stern also accepts the GRE, Executive Assessment, LSAT, MCAT and DAT.

What is the EQ Endorsement?

It replaces a traditional recommendation. Your current supervisor rates you and answers five questions, including a specific example of your emotional intelligence. One endorsement is required and a second is optional.
